While You Were Writing by Virginia Nelson

Who can love a Crankenstein monster?

While You Were Writing
Watkin’s Pond, Book 2
Coming September 2014

Unedited Blurb:

Radcliffe McQueen knows what he likes, what he doesn’t, and refuses to pretend social niceties. When a red hot mess of a woman tries to smooth his rough edges, he’s more than willing to teach her the wisdom of doing things his way.

Stodgy. Stubborn. Sanctimonious. Sheri Riddle can think of a long list of adjectives to describe her newest project. An artist by trade, a personality renovator by calling, she thinks she can help Radcliff.

Neither plans to fall in love, but something happened While You Were Writing.

About the Author

Virginia Nelson believed them when they said, “Write what you know.” Small town girl writing small town romance, her characters are as full of flaws, misunderstandings, and flat out mistakes as Virginia herself. When she’s is not writing or plotting to take over the world, she likes to hang out with the greatest kids in history, play in the mud, drive far too fast, and scream at inanimate objects. Virginia likes knights in rusted and dinged up armor, heroes that snarl instead of croon, and heroines who can’t remember to say the right thing even with an author writing their dialogue. Her books are full of snark, sex, and random acts of ineptitude—not always in that order.

EXCERPT
“What about you?” He folded his arms and cocked an eyebrow. “Did you come here with a secret agenda?”

“No secret agenda. When Valerie told me she worked at the club, I was curious so I agreed to meet her here instead of at my office.”

“Brave girl,” he murmured.

Katy cocked an eyebrow and put her hands on her hips. She hadn’t been called a girl since she turned eighteen. “That was slightly condescending.”

His eyes crinkled and a smile played at the corners of his broad, sensuous mouth. “The correct response to a compliment is thank you.”

She walked over to another part of the collection and pulled out a dusty bottle. “I hardly think that was—”

“I’m waiting.”

Surprised by his warning tone, she turned to face him.

He sat back in his chair, long, muscular legs spread, corded forearms crossed, dark eyes calm and focused. But despite his casual manner, she sensed power and tension coiled in his lean body, like a cobra ready to spring.

A thrill of fear raced through her, followed by a sharp spike of arousal. She tempered it quickly. No way would she be pushed around even if secretly his commanding tone turned her on. She replaced the bottle in the rack. “I think we’d better get back upstairs.”

His voice softened. “Why are you running away?”

She spun around to face him. “I’m not running away. I…I’ve seen the wine cellar so I thought—”

“You’re afraid.”

Katy folded her arms. “Not at all.”

“Your body says otherwise.”

She froze and then sucked in a breath. “What do you mean by that?”

“Body language. You’re flushed, trembling. Your breathing rate has increased. Your eyes are wide. Your hands are clenched into fists. Your tongue…” He paused and his voice lowered to a husky growl. “Your tongue keeps darting out to lick your lips. If that isn’t fear, sugar, what could it be?”

Arousal, fierce and unfamiliar, shot through her like an electric current, flaming her body, burning a path to her core. Sweat broke out on her heated skin. Her mouth opened and closed but no sound came out.
Mark’s lips curled into a slow, sensual smile. “Come here, Katy-who-isn’t-afraid.” The sound of his voice, hard and low, sent a chill down her spine.

No, not a chill. A heat wave. A fever. Maybe she was ill. Maybe that’s why her cheeks burned and sweat trickled between her breasts.

But that didn’t explain the deep yearning that had risen up within her. Oh, she wanted to go to him, tear his clothes off, climb onto his lap, run her hands over his broad chest and then lower. It was as if she had been starving for years and he was a banquet waiting to be tasted.

Maybe that was the truth of it.

Giving herself a mental shake, she willed the sensation to go away. What the hell was going on? Was she seriously contemplating having sex with a stranger in the basement of a fetish club?

She swallowed past the lump in her throat. “Why?”

“Didn’t you want the Meursault?”

Katy nodded and her pulse kicked up a notch.

“Third row down, second bottle from the left.” He pointed above his head.

Katy raised an eyebrow. “A gentleman would get it for me.”

“I’m not feeling like a gentleman right now. Especially after your stirring performance upstairs and the way you’re looking at me now—like you want to devour me.” The heat in his eyes matched his voice, dark and sinful, like a rich Amarone. How long had it been since a man had gazed at her with such desire? After Justin’s birth, Steven had never once looked at her with anything more than mild interest.

Katy lowered her eyes. “I wasn’t… I didn’t mean…”

He cut her off. “Katy.”

She looked up into amused brown eyes and then drank in the sight of his hard, muscular body sprawled across the chair; his long legs open and inviting.

Craving, deep and delicious, flooded her veins.

“Come here, sugar. I won’t bite.”

“It’s not the biting I’m worried about.” Nor was it him. Her gut told her he wouldn’t hurt her. If he had wanted to try anything, he wouldn’t have waited this long. No, it was her. She had lost control of herself and she had no idea what this new, lust-driven Katy Sinclair was about to do.

Still, his soft, cajoling voice drew her forward. Although she wanted the wine, she wanted him more. But after ten years on the bench, she didn’t remember how to play the game.

Her heels clicked on the flagstone floor as she closed the distance between them, stopping only a foot away. Even seated, he intimidated her. But God was he sexy. Her pulse raced and her throat turned dry.
He studied her for a long moment, his gaze intense and unwavering. “I’m beginning to wonder if we haven’t met before.”

Katy shook her head. “We haven’t. I’m sure of it. You’re not someone I would ever forget.” Or ever will. She stepped closer, her body now only inches from his. She caught the scent of his spicy aftershave and something raw and purely masculine. A quiver of fear ran through her followed again by the fierce rush of arousal.

“Good girl.”

“I’m hardly a girl.”

He reached out and put his hands on her hips, drawing her close, until she could feel the heat of his breath on her breasts through the thin cotton of her shirt. She bit her lip to stifle a moan.

“Most definitely not,” he murmured.

Inexplicable desires wracked Katy’s body. She wanted to thread her fingers through his hair, straddle his body and press her breasts against his full, sensuous lips.

Her briefcase dropped, unbidden, to the floor. She ran a tentative finger along the square line of his jaw, rough with stubble, but pulled away at his sharp intake of breath.

“Put it back.” He lifted her hand and pressed it against his cheek, trapping it with his own. His skin was warm, firm. So sexy. She felt the slip of arousal between her thighs and drew in a ragged breath.

Get a grip, Katy. This isn’t you.

She eased herself out of his grasp. “You’re going to have to move. I’m not reaching over you.”

“Shame.” He stood with the grace of a man half his size and pulled the chair out of her way.

Katy reached for the bottle. Too high. She looked over her shoulder. Mark’s gaze was fixed firmly on her…ass. She snorted a laugh. “When you’re done, maybe you could give me a hand.”

Mark grinned and walked toward her, stopping so close she could feel the heat radiating from his body across every inch of her back. He put one arm around her waist and pulled her into his broad chest.

“Where do you want it, sugar?” he whispered, his breath warm and moist in her ear.

Red, hot flames of need licked through her body. “Want what?”

“My hand.”

She could think of several places she wanted his hand. Places Steven had rarely touched. Emboldened by his obvious interest, and her own simmering arousal, she let her head fall back on his shoulder and looked up at him. “I’m not that kind of girl.”

His body shook with laughter. “What kind of girl?”

“The kind of girl who tells a man where she wants his hand.”

He stroked the curve of her waist and brushed his lips over her ear. “You don’t have to tell me, sugar. I know.”

War's Passion (Sons of War Book 1) by Lia Davis

War's Passion (Sons of War Book One) by Lia Davis

After losing her parents in a brutal attack from a monster straight out of her nightmares, Gwendolyn Preston tries to pick up the shattered pieces of her life. Along with her best friend, she moves to a small fishing village on the coast of Maine to find a new life away from the nightmares that haunt her. Just when she believes her life could go back to normal, the deliciously dark and handsome Markus Sullivan disrupts her hopes to grieve in peace.

Markus drew the short straw when it came to being the liaison between his father, Ares--God of War--and his brothers. When he discovers that the earth bound demi-gods, known as the descendants, have banded together to start another rebellion against the gods, it becomes his number one priority to stop them.

That is until he meets Gwen, the granddaughter of Aphrodite, and the next target of the descendants. Together, their path is rife with passion and danger. It might take more than the son of War to win this battle...Gwen herself.

Star Rating: Five Stars

Review: How do you explain to everyone that a mythical creature, a dragon straight out of your nightmares has killed your parents? No one belives Gwen when this happens, except for her sister Elle. Years pass and after moving from place to place Gwen and Elle move into the Lighthouse in Serentity Cove thinking it might be a nice place to start over. The place needs some serious fixing and so Elle gets the number to a local company to have them come look at it.

Markus and his brothers have lived for centuries protecting humanity and the descendants ( the earth born children of the Gods) from their rogue brother Garrick. Everything has gone quite until Gwen and Elle move in next door bringing Garrick to their door. Markus and his brothers must shelter the woman and protect them from falling into his brothers clutches. But what he doesn't expect is the firery attraction between him and Gwen who happens to be the granddaughter of the Goddess Aphrodite. But divine law has said the descendants are forbidden.... Or are they?

With Garrick on her tail and Markus and his brothers wanting to protect her can Gwen get over her paralyzing fear of Marku's Dragon, or will her fear be her downfall? Better yet what about the undeniable attraction between her and Markus....what will happen with that if she can't over come her fear?

Are you curious yet my lovelies? LOL!! Well if so you'll just have to go buy the book and check out this adventure all on your own! I promise it will definitely be worth it.
I for one can't wait until Ashes of War comes out next to see where this  story goes. Lia has definitely picked a story line to keep me interested! I love Gods, goddess's and dragons! I couldn't stop reading this story once I started it, and was disappointed when it ended, but as I said before I know I don't have long to wait before the second book is out so that helps. *grins*

Dark Desire of the Day ~ Timeless Desire by Torie James

When Creations Take Over....

First off, I want to say a huge Merci Beaucoup to Lady Leann for having me today. I will try to leash my habit of insane rambling and attempt to stay focused. This may or may not be possible. I’m only one cup of coffee into my day so it’s anyone’s guess!

Before I sat down to write my first book, Timeless Night, I had document upon document of all I thought I needed. I knew X would fall in love with Y and Z would die a gruesomely, brutal death. Perfect formula for cookbook romance.

Wrong.

Every time I sat down to work on it, invariably I ran into boredom and disinterest. It was frustrating and ego destroying. I mean, why weren’t “they” doing what I envisioned? I had a map, damn it! Why weren’t they following it? This was great fodder for the mind.

Nothing was going to plan and it took me almost an entire month to realize that despite my meticulous planning and research, despite my straightlaced confining characteristics and thorough detailing of both plot and person, this book was on a Highway to Hell. Or worse...the trashcan.

I’m a control freak. Anyone who has known me more than an hour, I’m sure they can confirm that. But see, the funny thing is that the Blessed Muse is spontaneous, bold, almost reckless and impulsive. The Muse doesn’t work well with rules and boundaries. So I did something I thought I’d regret later and I stepped out of my own “controlled” way and took a big risk for someone such as myself.

I gave up control of my own musings and mind.

One of my best decisions to date.

The characters you read about in Timeless Night? Yeah, I so didn’t plan or plot any of what you see there. The original draft was as different from the final manuscript as plaid is to purple. It has far more depth and passion because I stopped MY voice and let them have “theirs.” And yes, its odd and bizarre to discover some of my charries have likes and dislikes opposite of my own! For instance, my male protagonist in Timeless Night, Alexander Lakeland, loves Celine Dion. I have nothing against her but I can assure you she’s not on my playlist...*scratches head*  Well, she wasn’t at any rate. Shut up.

As challenging as Timeless Night was for me, Timeless Desire, my next New Camelot offering, was that and more. Timeless Night was about the unending loyalty of true friendship, love and magic. Its successor it about the lengths we all go to FOR love. The pain and the heartbreak. How we can make mistakes and lose ourselves so much, even we don’t know who we are. I thought it’d be easier to write since I well enough to stay out of my own way and let my characters speak.

Wrong again.

Nimue, my lead female in Timeless Desire, was a stubborn minx who shied away from really “reaching” out to me. I almost didn’t get this book written because of it. I found myself, at one point, “forcing” her voice and it was horrible, leaving me full of doubt again. But once I realized it wasn’t her trying to directly oppose me, that she, Nimue, was scared and broken so badly that couldn’t trust herself let alone anyone else! Even me! Once I understood that, I stopped pushing her and little by little, she came clean and allowed me to tell her story. I healed her and she helped me.

Sure, I might have pulled a Dr. Frankenstein and stitched together my babies from the miasma of my fertile mind, culled them from my dreams, my hopes, my nightmares. Yes, I threw the switch and screamed at my laptop....”LIVE! LIVE!” Sounds dramatic and cool.

But the truth is, while I may have brought them to life...they most certainly showed me what it meant to live.

Excerpt from Timeless Desire, Book Two of New Camelot: (Release Date March 21, 2014 by Breathless Press)

Why did his touch still burn through her, make her heart skip a beat?                 "Trust you? Trust you? I'd rather take a running leap onto the face of the sun, Gawain. I trusted you once and you ruined my life. I trusted you once more and you helped kill what I loved. Excuse me if I find your use of that particular word ironic." She shoved hard against him, hard enough he stumbled back a bit, allowing her to slip from his hold.
"If Lancelot knew, he'd hate you as much as I do. They all would! The only reason he remains unaware, is he is at peace again with his heart. I won't disturb it for the world. So your dirty little secret is safe with me, husband." The last word spit out with derision, she gave him a cold smile. "Let me go, Gawain. It's easy. As for the blood link, simple solution. We can continue to provide each other with what's needed without being together. As black as your blood is, it does provide me with the necessary sustenance. But that's all you are to me, now. A food source. There is no happy ending for us. You botched that up proper. I have stayed my voice the last few months for Bri. For Alex. But I owe you nothing. So let me go my way!" She moved as wind, reaching down to snatch off one of her stiletto'd heels, her free hand shoving him back into the wall, mortar crumbling around them. Animosity spurred her on as she angled the heel over his heart. "Or I will kill you. I swear it. I will kill you and in killing you, I kill myself. That's how desperate I am to be free of you."

Thank you so much again for having me today! You rock!

Review: The conclusion to this epic story will leave you crying, cheering and falling in love  with Wyatt and Michelle all over again!
This book is by far NOT for the faint of heart! For me it brought to light many of the very true things that I as a woman, mother and wife do all the time. I regularly push my own problems to the back, putting others before myself. Until just recently when I was forced to wake up and face my own depression. My own demons that I have battled subconsiously for years, unknown to me.

This is what happens to Michelle and Wyatt. Michelle has HUMONGOUS breakdown, and nearly loses the one person who treasures her above all others.

Wyatt.

Only by Wyatt being a stubborn Marine and enlisting the help of Michelle's friends does he learn the skills required to help Michelle in her dark hour.

   But things aren't easy.

They have a lot to work through, and things to overcome. Is Wyatt strong enough to stand by Michelle? Or will Michelle finally push away the one man who loves her imperfctions and all?

    HOLY WHAT THE HELL!!!!

I couldn't stop reading this book. I was only half way through when I had to stop and tell Ann what an Epic book it was. Her advice to me, and I will pass it onto you guys, is to get my tissues ready cause there was more to come.

Thank you Ann! I definitely did need them!

But seriously woman often push their own problems, their own needs to the back burner because we are taught to 'Hold it together' 'Have to be strong for everyone else' etc.... Well Dammit, we need to step up and say HEY! I need help! Don't be afraid to ask for help, whether you have a signifigant other or not, there will always be someone to help you through your dark time. There are loads of help out there and Ann has graciously given numbers to lines where you can get help. Whether you have PTSD, Manic Depression,...etc. They are there to help. You just have to ask, that simple, and yes I know that hard too.
Thank you Ann for writing this Epic book and allowing us the rare insite to those that deal with this widespread problem arising from our troops, and others.

Objects In The Rear View Mirror by F.E. Feeley Jr

Objects In The Rear View Mirror by F.E. Feeley Jr
    Memoirs of the Human Wraiths

Their new home on Frederick Street in Clay Center, Kansas, was supposed to give writer Jonathan David and his husband, clinical psychologist Dr. Eddie Dorman, an opportunity to enjoy married life. Jonathan has just released his first major bestseller, and he hopes to finally escape his traumatic past and find the quiet existence he has always craved. Eddie has taken a job at the Kansas State University psychology department, and they intend to begin anew.

They have barely settled in when the nightmare begins. Noises, disembodied voices, and mysterious apparitions make Jonathan’s life hell. Part of the house has decided to bare its teeth, show its jagged edges, and bring back the worst of Jonathan’s past. At first, Eddie cannot perceive the spectral events and fears for his husband’s sanity. When he’s also affected by the haunting, he’s unsure of what to do but refuses to be beaten.

Together, they seek a way to fight the forces trying to tear them apart. The world is a frightening place, but confronting their fears plunges Jonathan and Eddie into absolute horror.

Authors Bio F.E. Feeley Jr was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and lived there for twenty years before joining the military. He is a veteran of the US Armed Services; having done a tour in support of Operation Iraq Freedom in 2002-2003, he turned college student, pursuing a degree in political science. He now lives in Southeast Texas where he is engaged to the love of his life, John, and where they raise their 1½ year old German shepherd, Kaiser.

As a young man, reading took center stage in his life, especially those novels about ghosts, witches, goblins, and all the other things that went bump in the night. His favorite authors include such writers as Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and Anne Rice, whose work allowed him to travel to far off places and meet fascinating and scary characters. As a gay man, he wishes to be able to write good fictional literature for those who love the genre and to write characters that readers can relate to. All in all, he is a cigarette smokin’, whiskey drinkin’, rock and roll lovin’, tattoo wearin’ dreamer of a man with a wonderful partner who puts up with his crap and lets him write his stories.
