Excerpt

Artemis sat on a stone bench in the rose gardens outside the dragons’ home—her daughter’s new home with her mate, Tyson. Tears blurred her vision and her nose tingled, fueling her anger at herself for daring to believe for even an instant that things could be as they once were. Evan didn't want her, not after so much time had passed. She was going on Zeus’s mission, regardless— deliver his message then return home, alone.

She sensed her daughter before she entered the small courtyard. “I saw Evangelos.”

“I know. He called.”

“He didn't want me there.” Although she tried to contain the storm of emotions within, some of her misery leaked out in her tone, frustrating her further. It was bad enough that she ached from a rejection she should have foreseen. She should have better control than to let others, even her daughter, know of her weakness, and finding she didn't was humbling.

Ashlynn appeared in front of her as she knelt down and took her hands. “That is not true. He’s hurting, like you. Men handle feelings different than we do.”
After a few moments, Artemis squared her shoulders. “I have to find Hera.”

“What? Why?”

She met her daughter’s concerned stare. “I have to deliver a message to her for Zeus. In exchange, Evangelos gets reinstated as a god.”

Ashlynn stood, folded her arms, and narrowed her eyes. “If you live through it. Do you even know where she is?”

Meet the heroine of Artemis’s Hunt

Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt and childbirth, she is the daughter of Zeus and Leto. Many traditions said she was a virgin goddess, never wooed by a man. That was until she met Evangelos while on a hunt.
For fifteen hundred years she believed her love had died. A deception her father let her believe until her daughter, Ashlynn, discovered Evengelos was alive and well in the human world.

Excerpt

514 AD

Artemis crept through the darkening forest, her bare feet barely making a sound as she hunted her prey. The scent of damp earth and spring wildflowers filled the air. The thump, thump of her heartbeat and that of the deer hiding amongst the foliage a few feet away were the only sounds.

The doe’s head rose above the brush, her ears flickered as she carefully stepped forward. Artemis stilled, slowly pulled an arrow from her quiver and drew her bow. Before she could fire, the animal jerked her head toward Artemis, then took off in the opposite direction.

Damn. So close.

A familiar, masculine scent mixed with that of forest and earth met her nose. Annoyance bathed her, turning to anger as she twisted sharply to face the intruder. Evangelos, minor god of the messengers, stood a few feet away, his own bow at the ready. She snarled, glancing from the bow to the smug look on his face.
“I thought Hermes taught his sons better manners. Don’t you know it is dangerous to sneak up on me during a hunt?”

One large, bare shoulder rose in a lazy shrug as he stalked closer. She planted her feet in place, refusing to show him any type of weakness—he would never know how her body heated when he was near, something she hadn’t experienced with any other man.

She was a pure goddess, untouched by the desires of the flesh, and she would stay that way. Not even Evangelos could change who she was or her nature.

He stopped a foot away, the heat from his virile body reaching out to her, coaxing her to come closer. “I want you to teach me to hunt.”

Steeling her spine, she narrowed her gaze at him. “You can already hunt.”

“Not like you. I want you to show me your way.”

“Why?”

He took a step nearer. She desperately wanted to move away, but giving up ground would be a sign of weakness. “Does the reason matter?”

No, it didn't matter. She couldn't care less why he wanted her to teach him. “What do you offer me in return?” He had to know asking a boon of her meant she’d require some sort of payment in exchange.

One corner of his mouth lifted, drawing her attention to his full lips. What was wrong with her? She must be ill. It was the only reasonable explanation for her reaction to him. When he spoke, his tone softened, almost to a whisper. “I offer my services to you during the time it takes you to teach me.”

Suspicion crawled up her spine. “What services?”

He closed the distance between them until only a breath separated them. “Anything you wish, my goddess.”

She was fully unprepared for what happened next. When his soft lips brushed hers, every nerve in her body lit up as if charged by lightning. For a moment she allowed his testing caress, but when he wrapped an arm around her waist, she broke the kiss and slapped him. The sound of the strike echoed off the trees as his head whipped to the side, thunder to emphasize the storm he’d awakened with his touch.

“Do that again and I’ll kill you,” she warned.

Interview Questions:

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
The Naughty Whispers Book Club series of books was born from the growing popularity of online friendships. I have so many wonderful friends spread all over the globe, and through our hours of fun and laughter, I’m more confident in my weirdness LOL! The message I’d most like to impart would be that we come in all shapes and sizes, but there is a romantic hero or special leading lady out there for all of us, and friends to share the journey with.

How do you come up with your characters?
I give free range to my imagination and they come to me. I’m a very visual person, so I spend a lot of time scrolling through pictures of gorgeous men in varied states of undress and beautiful women (just one of the perks of being a writer ;) )

Do you have any writing rituals that you do while writing?
I have to be fully caffeinated to function, especially when I’m writing. My mind is like a squirrel otherwise and only get as far as looking at sexy pics!

What types of books do you enjoy reading in your free time or what do you like to do with your free time?
Free time??? What is this that you speak of? When I have a break from being a Mum, wife, writer and working at my evil day job, I read. I have a To Be Read mountain and it always satisfies when I need to escape to another world, even if it’s only for five minutes.

Favorite type of music to have playing while writing?
I don’t generally have music playing while I’m writing, but I love to have it when I’m plotting. Operation: Sexy Soldier was plotted to Adam Lambert  on constant repeat. Full Bloom – Big and Rich. I’m also working on a series at the moment involving four girls and the first girl in that series seems to love Shania Twain, but I’m also working on my first MM romance and those boys love Sam Smith.

Does your family read your books?
Nope. Or if they do, they don’t tell me ;)

Bianca is offering one commenter Swag, a kindle copy of Operation: Sexy Soldier and $5 Amazon Gift Card. Rafflecopter info is below.

When Jocelyn and her brother Nate rob a convenience store, Jocelyn comes face to face with her worst nightmare and greatest love, a reaper named Gabriel.

Gabriel Solaris is an Enforcer, a genetically enhanced psychic often referred to as a reaper for his ability to take souls, and he’s charged with collecting Jocelyn’s. When he finds Jocelyn outside the store, he’s sure she’s up to something illegal. Proving it isn’t necessary. He holds a warrant and it’s all he needs. But the closer Gabriel gets to Jocelyn, the more he begins to question his duty and why he believes her claims of innocence. Review:
Wowsa!!! My socks are totally knocked off! D.L. has done it again, and delivered a mind blowing, heart-pounding, out-of-this-world romance! I HAD TO FINISH this book once I started it, it was THAT compelling!

The chemistry, plot line, romance and over all action keeps a reader locked in until the ride is finished!

I just can't let go of the specially engineered task force that is punishing people for past life crimes.... That by itself was totally freaking wicked! Add a dirty 'cop' to the mix and Woo Hoo!! The chase is On!!!

  ^_^ Awesome book hands down.

I simply canot wait to read another book by D.L. Jackson!

Dark Desire Spotlight ~ The Heist by Adriana Kraft

The Heist by Adriana Kraft

A heist? A murder? It’s villain’s choice.

A special-order art theft? Tedious, but seamless – until small town museum director Kara Daniels calls in the experts. Furious her favorite trio of priceless impressionist paintings has been stolen from its traveling exhibit on her watch, Kara is determined to save not only the paintings, but her future in the art world. She’ll stop at nothing to entrap the thief.

Ted Springs knows the underbelly of the criminal world a little closer than he might like—but he’s turned it to good advantage, first as a police officer, and now as detective for the Upper Midwest Arts Council. His job? To guarantee the security of the valuable paintings in the Council’s traveling exhibits.

Heat sizzles when Ted and Kara collide—can they work together, before it’s too late?

EXCERPT

“I and my staff have already done fairly thorough background checks on all the museum employees,” Ted said.
“Oh.” Kara scowled. “I’m not sure I like that.”
“But you expected it?”
“Of course. At some point.”
“I believe in being efficient. Even before certain added incentives.”
“I can always change my mind. I don’t know a thing about you.”
“You know enough. I have large hands.” Ted chuckled when she winced. “I’ve worked for the Upper Midwest Arts Council for five years.”
“And before that?”
“I was a Chicago cop.”
“Oh.”
“I went into the army right out of high school and completed my BA degree at U.I.C. while on the force. Funny, isn’t it? While you were working on your MA at the University of Chicago, I was patrolling the streets of Hyde Park and South Chicago.”
“Really?”
“That’s right.”
“Maybe we bumped into each other.”
“I highly doubt that. I wouldn’t forget bumping into you. Remember?”
“Oh, right.” Kara’s flush returned.

ADRIANA KRAFT ON THE WEB

A Word from the author

Planning a heist

Our latest release, The Heist, got its start on a rainy Monday a while back, when hubs and I attended a behind-the-scenes tour at our small Iowa town’s exquisite art museum. A new exhibit was about to open, and we were treated to detailed descriptions of the process of locating and ordering traveling exhibits, shipping them, storing them, uncrating them, hanging them, insuring their safety, and repacking them.

You must know by now that hubs is a criminologist  by profession. It didn’t take us long to be looking for vulnerable spots in the museum’s process, and by the end of the day, with a little internet research on the high stakes world of stolen paintings, we had our basic plot sketched out.

Our next problem was—what painting should be stolen? Clearly, we couldn’t go with an existing well-known piece of art. We opted to create The Three Maids, an entirely fictional trio of medium sized Impressionist portraits, based on what we knew about Monet, Manet, Renoir, Caillebotte, and the women they painted. We’ve put so much detail into the paintings’ descriptions that I keep expecting to see them when I enter an Impressionist display. If no one has painted them yet, I definitely think someone should!

I’ll leave the details of how the actual heist was planned, carried out, and (we hope) foiled for readers to discover—we hope you enjoy reading The Heist as much as we enjoyed creating it!

The Fates have thrown them together, forcing secrets to be told and igniting a passion so fierce it may destroy both of them.

Star Rating: Four Stars

Review: Another thrilling adventure and tale of the heart ffrom Ms. Davis! Ty and Ash were utterly perfect together, their attitudes and stead fast loyalty to those they love making them stronger.

What really intrigued my from the get go in this book was how Ash was going to prove Ty's innocence for the crime that he was being accused of...Hmmm...

I have to say I definitely did NOT expect the little twist that was thrown in the story, nor did I expect the other tid bits Ms. Davis through into the mix. Believe me you won't see those coming when you read this story.

I can't wait to read more of this series by Ms. Davis! (of course I'm partial to the whole changing into dragons part ^_^ )

Dark Desire Spotlight ~ Impractical Magic by M J O'Shea

Impractical Magic by M.J. O'Shea

Synopsis:

Sequel to Newton's Laws of Attraction

Physics teacher Fenton Keene is looking forward to a summer of doing nothing but hanging out with friends and maybe getting into a little trouble. With his best friend out of town, trouble seems like the best option and it comes in the form of his building's newest temporary resident, a gorgeous fireman named Kevin.

Fen's been attracted to men before, but this is the first time he's considered acting on it. And act he does.

Fen and Kevin have an intense summer fling. Just in time for Kevin to go home, more feelings develop than Fen can ignore, but they don't stop Kevin from leaving. Once Kevin's gone, Fen can't stop thinking about him. That's when reality sets in and Fen faces the difficulties of distance and fidelity, while Kevin balks at Fen's reluctance to tell his friends and family. They just need to find a way to make their magic more practical.

Excerpt:

“You mind if I sit here?”
Fen sat up at the sound of a low, smooth voice. He was disoriented for a second, sweating from the heat of the day but blind, stuck in muted gray. Then he remembered putting his T-shirt over his face when he felt it getting burned earlier. He dragged the fabric down and squinted at the sudden, overwhelming sunlight. A broad-shouldered dark blotch grew sharper by the second.
“Um, no. It’s fine,” he mumbled. He’d sat his book and his iPod on the deck chair next to him. He reached out and fumbled for them until a warm, calloused hand slid both items into his. “Thanks.”
The guy’s laugh was as low and sweet as his voice. “You okay?”
“Just a bit sun blind and I don’t have my contacts in so you pretty much look like a dark blurry mountain.”
“Uh, thanks, I think.” Another chuckle. And Fen wasn’t usually one to react to things strongly, but damn if that chuckle didn’t send a whole flock of shivers flying up his spine.
This guy has to be new.
Fen  had been at the pool all morning. Hell, he’d been at the pool most days that week and in the building for over two years. He’d know if he’d heard a voice like that before. Especially with the way his body seemed to react to it.
Fen blinked at the hand that seemed to materialize out of nowhere right in front of his chest, which was still mournfully pale and freckling more than tanning. “I’m Kevin. Just moved into the building a few days ago.”
So he is new. Summer just got a bit more interesting. Fen checked himself. Wait, why did I think that?
He grasped Kevin’s big, long-fingered hand with his, a bit cautiously. “Fenton, but everyone calls me Fen.”
There were the shivers again. What the hell? He had to see this guy. But wait. That meant…. Fen wanted to groan.
The combination of the over-chlorinated pool and his contacts had made his eyes itch, so he’d simply slung his nerdy glasses on when he’d left for the pool earlier. Now he had to put them back on or else he’d stay in Blind City. But first he had to find the damn things. Fen swept his hands along the ground until he found his glasses. He shoved them on his face and stood so he wasn’t looking up at Mister Shivers from his back. Of course when he stood, it was on his tube of sunscreen, which then proceeded to squirt all over his other leg. He screamed and jumped like a little girl, and then wished he could disappear into the pool and never return.
Kevin chuckled. “You okay?”
“Other than being terminally awkward? Yes, I’m fine.” Fen wiped desperately at the thick spooge of lotion that had made its way all up the inside of his thigh and under his shorts. What a fantastic first impression he made.
“I like your glasses. They make you look smart.”
Fen decided the guy must be fucking with him. He looked up and just about choked. And they make you look like…. Dammmmnnnn.
Earlier shivers be damned. His whole body melted when Fen finally got a good long look at this not-so-mysterious new guy. Yeah. Damn was pretty much the only word his brain had room for. Tall, at least compared to Fen, with dark brown hair that curled up at the ends, big brown eyes, gorgeous smile, golden tanned skin, and his body… fuck. He looked young, probably not much out of the jailbait range, but Fen had to stop himself from drooling visibly. He was already drooling like a damn St. Bernard inside.

See, the thing was, Fen wasn’t exactly straight. Exactly.

He’d spent most of his teenage years panting over the girls who weren’t into his pale, skinny science-geek ass, but a few times he’d noticed when one of his friends stripped off his shirt, or when his college roommate came back from the shower with his towel slung low on his hips. He’d noticed… and maybe got a warm, melty feeling in his belly a time or two. But he’d never done anything about it. He didn’t know why. He just hadn’t. And he was twenty-nine, not a kid anymore, and there was this seriously fucking hot guy standing there, and… was he flirting? Fen didn’t even know. But for the first time ever his body really, really wanted to know. No little warm, melty feeling. That was like saying Niagara Falls was a leaky faucet.
“Uh,” he laughed awkwardly. Glasses. Right. We’re talking about my glasses. “Thanks. They’re pretty dorky.”
Kevin just shrugged and dropped into the seat next to Fen’s. That’s when Fen noticed there were at least six other empty loungers just as close to the pool as his and not next to anyone else.
Hmmmm. Interesting.
He sank back into his lounger, lay back, and closed his eyes again, determined not to make anything of it even if he wanted nothing more than to crawl into young Kevin’s lap and touch.
“Hey, you might want to put some more sunblock on—you know, on your shoulders instead of your leg.” Kevin chuckled. Fen wanted to groan. Like he didn’t get enough shit already from his friends for being a moron. Now Hot Guy was doing it too? “You’re getting kind of pink,” Kevin gestured at Fen’s chest.
Wanna help? Fen nearly choked on his own spit. That would go over super well in the first three minutes after they’d shaken hands.
“Thanks. Gotta love Irish skin.” He smiled—at least he hoped it looked like a smile and not some sort of breathy sigh—and reached for his bottle of 50 SPF. “You need any?” he asked, offering the bottle.
Suave. Seriously. Maybe next I can flop on my stomach and moan out “do me first.”
Kevin smiled. His grin was brilliant and easy and made him look so young and sweet and kissable. Fen wanted to kiss him. A lot. He thought.
“Thanks. I’m okay though,” Kevin said shyly. The shyness was cute, and totally at odds with a guy who obviously had no problem plunking himself down right to Fen when there were empty chairs all over the place.
Fen didn’t know what else to say, which was something that had seriously never happened to him before. He just shrugged and lay back on his chair for the third time. He wished he could come up with something witty—banter, flirtation, anything—to keep the conversation going with his suddenly shy new neighbor.
Yeah. He had nothing.

Review Quotes:

"Impractical Magic is a charming, light-hearted story with depth. O’Shea’s knack for humorous dialogue and action shines through clearly in this book"

"The scenes between Fen and Kevin are sweet and sexy. M.J. O’Shea is great at creating characters you can fall in love with and cheer for.  She does an awesome job of resolving the issues keeping them apart and giving Fen the HEA he so deserves."

"Impractical Magic is mostly all about camaraderie, connection, and love.

And the ending is perfection wrapped in phyllo dough (like all the best things are). "
