Dance Away, Danger by Alexa Bourne

Dance Away, Danger by Alexa Bourne

Sensible dance instructor Tessa Gage likes her life organized, risk-free and on her own terms. When her cop brother goes missing, his crooked partner tries to kill her, and a handsome stranger claims he’s come to protect her, she’s forced to leave her comfort zone. With more dance and business sense than survival skills and no idea who to trust, Tessa has no choice but to rely on this man who’d rather be anywhere but by her side.

When carefree carpenter Matt Rylan gets a late night call from an Army buddy who once saved his life, he finds himself where he never again wanted to be—responsible for someone else. Honor demands Matt cooperate, but he never expects his simple babysitting job to test the limits of his self-control. Nor does he expect it to explode into a race against time for his very freedom.

As Tessa and Matt get closer to the truth, and to each other, Tessa learns to step outside the safety of her world to help set the wheels of justice in motion. For Matt, supporting this courageous woman suddenly becomes everything to him. Yet, his biggest challenge remains sharing his closed-off heart with her before the danger silences them both forever.

Star Rating: Four Stars
Review:   I don't normally read romances from this genre, because it's normally the same old song and dance with each book. But this totally blew me away, with the detail and emotions of the characters.
The insecurities that Tessa feels and the bravery that she learns are very well written. I don't go for the weak female character, the one who sits there and goes with whatever the male character has to say, it seriously rankles me. But this was done in such a way that it didn't make Tessa weak. Yes, she isn't a very outgoing person, more introverted and reclusive, but she pulled on her big girl panties when she realized her brother was in danger.
Matt was also well written and even though I wanted to punch him at the end when he leaves, he more than makes up for it in the end. Not too mention who doesn't love a guy who even though a friend hasn't spoken to them in years, calls him asking him to take care of his sister he immediately drops his vacation plans and mans up. And even though he is a former military he doesn't come across as a macho meathead either.
As for the bad guys =__= Man did I EVER want to kick them in the family jewels! (if they'd had any that is)
All in all I can't wait for the next book in the series, hopefully it's Tessa's brother. **HINT, HINT**

Review:  Finding love can often be one of the hardest things that one can ever embark on. Then to lose it after 30 years together...... devastating.
Then to unwittingly sign up for a dating service and attempt to find another person that you click with, let alone letting go of any guilt or grief that you are stilling holding onto from your loved one...
What about trying to finally LIVE your life after years of dedicating yourself to your career. Taking the leap to find someone to share the rest of your years with, and find something to fill your spare time with...Daunting task to say the least.
Brigadier General Eli Willows and Anya Volkov both decide, or rather are thrown into a one night stand. Eli by his fellow officers and friends who want himt o finally find someone to help him be happy again in his final years.
Anya is referred to Madame Eve by her friend and ex manager, and needing something and someone to help fill her time, decides to sign up. Never imagining what lays in store for her when she fills out the  questionnaire.
What follows is a surprising mix of stubbornness, sass, and smexy!
I've read several of DL Jackson's books and I can honestly say that each one is unique and a genuine great read. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Review: Book 2 of The Capes Series by Rebecca Royce.
Growing up a huge comic book geek (Thanks Dad) and as a rabid book reader, this story grabbed my attention and shook me by the arms! Super Powers and trying to remain some sort of anonymity in our fast paced instant news world....
HELLS YEAH!! Sign me up for Lois Lane!!
The added betrayal, family issues, certain medical issues and the threat of death all make for a grab you by the shorties and get ready for a wild ride sort of sensation! Ms. Royce certainly delivered and then some, I wanted the story to never end, to continue on and on and on...  Unrealistic I know ^-^ But I was so thoroughly entangled in that snare the author loves to get their readers in, that beautiful fantasy world that any author who is good can create.
The sheer stubborness of Alice and Ace made me want to beat their heads in with a frying pan until the came to their senses. I for one cannot wait to read more of Ms. Royce's work, and most especially the next one in this series!
If you haven't picked up this author then you should, you can follow her on facebook, on her author page, decadent publishing discussion group, or fated desires publishing. And before you start this book, pick up Book 1 of The Capes Seductive Powers and learn about Ace's brother Draco.
Happy Reading!

Review: I fell in love with Marci and Anton from page one, I simply could not get enough of them. This is the first book that I've read by Ms. Leo, and WOW what a doozy!!
Thank you for allowing me the pleasure of losing myself on Gemini Island and its shifters!

I definitely loved the whole idea of an island resort for troubled teen shifters, I mean we have them in the human world why not the shifter too, right! Plus it's not something that I've ever read about before, and for me that's saying something. I love to read, and I read....A LOT!
   But back to the review!
Marci comes across as a self assured woman who know what she wants and is  confident  in her abilities to attain it. Even though her sex crazed lynx wants nothing more than to jump every single male on the island.
Until Anton shows up that is...
Anton presents a confident male who's tried time and time again to rise above  the horridness of his past. He comes to Gemini Island thinking its the perfect place to remake himself, and at the same time help others as well.
But then he catches a whiff of a certain lynx in heat....
Add to all this sexual tension (and boy is there a lot of it) ....someone is attacking young women on the island, almost killing them.
Who is it, and will Marci and Anton be able to find the culprit before it's too late?

OMG!!! Are you wondering what happens next? ^__^
Well dear fellow readers I am not one to spoil it, so you'll just have to buy the book and read it for yourselves.

I for one will be buying the other two books in this Epic series, so I can revisit the island and its shifters until the next smoking book comes out!

Review: I've entered late into the game as usual, but HOLY GOOD GRAVY BATMAN!!!
Ms. Ryan swept the rug out from under my feet with the word Go! It is clear that this is definitely a bigger story, so now I have some catching up to do! (lol) If you've followed the series up to this point then you know whats been going on. For those that haven't (and sadly I am one of them) we'll have  to take a step back and start with the first book in the RedWood Pack series 'An Alpha's Path'

      Anyway on with the review!!

Up to this point a LOT has happened, wolves have been brutalized, tortured, abused, and humiliated all for the sick sadistic pleasure of an evil twisted wolf and his demon lover. One such product of the snakes twisted perversions Lexi and her young son Parker have finally found a pack to call home.

    Or have they?

What's more the Redwoods are accepting of her, Parker, and Lexi's brother even more so once it's obvious that she is a potential mate to North Jamenson, the last single male Jamenson.
But of course not everything is as cut and dry as one would hope it to be.
    Nope.
There are secrets and hurdles to overcome before Lexi and North can come together as mates are truly meant too.
But DAMN what a ride it is!!
Without giving away the ending I'll just say YOU MUST READ!!!!

I for one certainly can't wait for the next installment in this series!

A Marine's Proposal by Lisa Carlisle Spotlight and Excerpt

A Marine's Proposal by Lisa Carlisle

When Slade Masters, her closest friend in the Marine Corps, proposes to her, Caitlyn O’Neill lets her thrill overshadow the catch. It’s a marriage in name only. Slade thinks a temporary marriage is the perfect solution to their problematic living situations in the barracks. Despite her reservations about the deceit involved, Caitlyn is thrilled to live off-base and experience the culture of the island of Okinawa, Japan, as a local—especially with Slade. Swept up in the excitement of apartment hunting and planning a wedding, she silences the anxiety within and goes along with Slade’s plans. They struggle to fight their growing attraction while acting on their script. On their wedding night, their bodies heat up with the thrill of being so close. Desire intensifies during a heated moment on the dance floor. How can they play off the charade of their marriage now that they have complicated their arrangement? Have they ruined their plan or will they find a way to continue? Or has their passionate night together uncovered hidden desires impossible to ignore?

EXCERPT

     "We should get married."
Caitlyn didn't blink nor twitch a muscle for a good five seconds. She must have misunderstood. "Married?" she repeated, her jade eyes opening wide as she put down the magazine. "What are you talking about? I thought you were talking about dinner. You're joking, right?"
"No, I'm not joking. I'm completely serious."
"Masters, get out of here," Caitlyn said with a flick of her wrist. "I think all that thin air from rock climbing earlier has gone straight to your head." She glanced at the television and saw a commercial with a couple exchanging rings in some outdoor setting. What the heck was this show even about? Whatever it was, it must have been where he came up with that cockamamie idea. "I still think we should go into Naha. It's a Saturday night, we can get some noodles and some drinks. Go for a walk in the outdoor markets, maybe even go dancing," she emphasized. She was pushing her luck with that idea. In all the time she knew him, Lance Corporal Slade Masters did not dance.
Slade ignored her and stood up. "You see," he began, pacing the room already like a lawyer presenting a case, "we both want some privacy. You want to get away from guys hitting on you. I want to get off-base so I can study. Do you know how much they make you read in these law courses? If I'm ever going to graduate, I can't live in a box with loud Marines stumbling in drunk all hours of the night. If we get married, we’d get a housing allowing since the staff housing is all full. Then we’d share an apartment off base and get out of these goddamn barracks."
While watching him outlining his points with such confidence, Caitlyn found it hard not to drool. Outdoorsy, masculine, and intellectual. His self-assurance filled the area around him like a physical presence; She couldn't help but be impressed by him. His tone, his gait, all commanded attention. He’d be an excellent officer one day if he wanted to. Or a lawyer or politician.  He's a natural leader. People can’t help but look up to him.
At the same time, Caitlyn tried to get over the shock of Slade's unexpected proposal. Slade Masters was the one Marine she secretly fantasized about for months, ever since they met in training in the States. Now they were living across the hall in Okinawa, Japan. They started out friends, but as they grew closer, Caitlyn developed stronger feelings—something she could never admit without harming their friendship.
“I never pictured you to be the marrying type,” Caitlyn remarked.
         “Why not?”
“You’re always so focused on other things. Your running times, scuba-diving, grades—never something as ‘trivial’ as romance.”
“This isn’t about romance. It’s about being practical."
“Oh, of course.” Caitlyn smirked. “Naturally.” She knew there had to be a catch.

After a year of sobriety, Marshall accepts a new job with the Wellness Center, something else to help him continue cleaning up his life. Things are finally improving when his sponsor has a heart attack. The counselor hired to replace him is none other than Kyle Young, the lost ex's best friend. Kyle has always hated Marshall, but now they must work together and move past their history. When Marshall saves Eric’s life, Kyle suddenly sees Marshall in a new light. But will romance unsettle Marshall’s hard-won new stability…

Excerpt/Prologue

I LOVED vodka. Vodka martinis; Bloody Marys; screwdrivers. Oh, and I loved green apple vodka. Simply an amazing drink. It was what I went to when I was happy, when I was sad, when I was frustrated. I used any excuse as a reason to practically drink myself into a coma.
“Tequila was my drink of choice,” a chubby man with long, hippy-style hair said as he stood at a podium in the front of the room. “I’d finished off a bottle of Jose when I decided I wanted macaroni and cheese. I’d managed to boil the water and throw the noodles in. I grabbed the pot so I could pour it into a strainer but I tripped on my own feet and the boiling water went down my leg. It hurt like hell, but all I could think about was that it could’ve been Ashley, my baby girl. I’d die if I ever hurt her. I swore I’d never drink again. I fell off the wagon once or twice, but it’s been three years since I touched alcohol.”
The group clapped. Was this what my life had come down to? My chest was tight and I thought my throat was going to close up. My right leg was doing a steady thump- thump-thump.
“I went swimming when I was drunk,” a thin lady at the platform said. “It was two in the morning and I’d come home from one social function or another. My husband and kids were in bed but I wanted to go swimming. So I stripped down and dove in. I did okay for a minute then I tried to dive from the shallow end.”  She pulled her bangs back to reveal a scar. “I cut my head open and passed out. I guess Dean, my husband, had been watching me the whole time. He saved my life. That was six months ago and I haven’t had a drink since.”
Everybody applauded again. I couldn’t applaud. My hands were heavy. I’d lied to myself for so long believing I could control my drinking. I couldn’t. Not ever. Other people had seen it early on, I hadn’t. Until after what I did… what I did to Eric, the man I’d been in love with. But not even that horrible accident had been enough to get me to stop drinking. I had to go on and hurt Eric again. This time emotionally; I played a dirty trick, making him think his boyfriend Cade was cheating on him. I don’t know which one wounded him worse. I don’t know which one I regretted more.
The next person speaking was a man I knew well. Walker Reynolds had a clean-shaven head, long goatee and tattoos up and down his arms. In the past we had been drinking buddies. Then a year ago he vanished off the radar and I hadn’t seen him again until earlier that evening. I’d been having a drink at a bar called Vessels and Walker was the bartender. He told me he’d been clean for almost ten months thanks to a counselor named Seth Stanton. Walker dragged me to the Seattle Wellness Center to meet Seth and—coincidentally, I’m sure—there was an AA meeting going on. Seth and Walker convinced me to sit in, telling me I didn’t have to talk if I didn’t want to. And I didn’t want to speak, not at all.
“I had been at a raging party,” Walker said with a sad smile. “I’d been drinking for hours and was so wasted I couldn’t add two and two to get four. I was wise enough to get a cab home but when I got there my wife was furious at me. I lost control, pushed her to the ground, grabbed a vase and almost threw it at her. Thank God for the almost. I don’t know how, but I stopped myself, dropped the vase then fell to the floor myself. I haven’t touched a drop since, thanks to Seth, my sponsor. And my wife, who I praise every day, forgave me.” I swallowed hard while I listened to the last of his testimony. I held back the tears that built in my eyes and I flashed back to the most horrific moment in my life. It had been a long six years since it had happened.

I was late to meet Eric and wasn’t paying attention. I was also more than three sheets to the wind. It had been a really bad day. I’d gotten a B in Calculus and my parents had freaked the fuck out. It didn’t matter I’d studied my ass off and had done my best. It wasn’t good enough for the namesake of the high and mighty Marshall Ellerbee the Third. After getting my ass chewed, I went to a bar and drank ’til the pressure dissipated. I was so drunk I didn’t know how I even made it to the car, let alone across town. I tried to hurry because I didn’t want to be too late meeting Eric. I could barely see. Everything was in slow motion. Then it happened: I’d hit someone. I hit the car so hard it swiveled my BMW around and my car hit a stop sign—the stop sign I was supposed to have stopped at. My head slammed into the steering wheel, and I passed out.

I’d always said I could do that—stay in control. I didn’t want to most of the time. Drinking was my relief, the only way to chill out when I had disappointed my parents once again.

I don’t know how long I was out after crashing into the stop sign, but I woke up as an EMT pulled me out of the car. I could stand, but barely, and only with assistance. I saw two other EMTs placing someone on a gurney. I prayed the person I hit wasn’t going to die. A death would be much harder for my dad to cover up. And then I saw something that made the world drop out from under me. The person I’d hit was wearing a bright-purple jacket. Eric had one like it. As the stretcher rolled past me I saw his face—Eric’s face. I dropped to my knees and everything in my stomach came churning up my throat. I retched until I couldn’t breathe and then I passed out. When I woke up again I was in a hospital room. I wanted, needed, to see Eric, but it hurt when I tried to move. The sun was up, so I knew I’d slept through the night. I closed my eyes, and when I opened them again it was dark once more. At first I wasn’t sure where I was, and then I remembered the accident and what I’d done to Eric. I could taste the bile in my throat. I was surprised when I looked around the room and saw my father sitting in the corner. “Is Eric… okay?” I asked. Dad looked me in the eyes and once more I could see the disappointment. “He’s alive, Marshall.” I knew there was more he wasn’t telling me. “Can I see him?” Dad shook his head. “He’s been in surgery all night.” He paused for what seemed like an eternity. “His doctor says he’ll never walk again.”
I couldn’t stifle the sob that came out. Dad said something, but I didn’t hear him. I’d already shut down.

It was getting harder and harder to breathe and sweat was pouring off me. I stared at my hands. They quivered uncontrollably. I realized I was standing at the podium but didn’t remember walking to it. Seth was on one side of me and Walker on the other. “I hurt the man I loved,” I said. “I was driving drunk and running late and hit him with my car. I paralyzed him. He’ll never walk again because of what I did.” My voice was shaky. I don’t know how I could even speak. All I knew was that I had to do it. I turned and looked at Walker who had an encouraging expression on his face. He nodded at me and it gave me the strength to continue.
“My name is Marshall, and I am an alcoholic.”

Forsaken by Jacquelyn Frank

Forsaken by Jacquelyn Frank
As a mercenary, Leo Alvarez has signed on for a lot—but he never signed on for his best friend becoming host to the soul of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh. Jackson is now inhabited by a Bodywalker, and Leo is forced to grapple with a realm of supernatural beings far more dangerous than anything he’s ever encountered.

But when Jackson is wounded by an attack from a demon god, Leo must team up with another supernatural creature—a Night Angel—to save his friend from utter destruction. With skin as black as midnight, hair as white as snow, and a body of pure perfection, the Night Angel arouses a burning desire in Leo, even as he refuses to be intimidated by her power—or the power of those who would destroy his friend. An unusual alliance is forged, electrified by sexual temptation, and together the two must unite their strengths to bring down a supreme evil.

I rate this book  Four stars
If you're a fan of Jac's then you are probably familiar with our beloved Nightwalkers. We've gone through the emotional upheaval several times over already. Happily I might add.
Forsaken is book three in this new branch of the Nightwalker series, you've already met the Demon's, Lycanthropes, Mistrals, Vampires, Shadowdwellers, and the Druids. Now we get to meet six more Nightwalker breeds. The Bodywalkers, Djinn, Night Angels, Mysticals, Wraiths and Phoenixes.
I am sure you are wondering, why does one group not know of the other, and vise versa?
You'll have to read to find the answer to that my loverlies. ^__^

Forsaken tells the emotional tale of Leo Alavarez and how he sets out on a quest to save his best friend and bodywalker Jackson/Menes. If you've been following the series then you already know who Leo is, and his back story. But for those of you that are new Leo is Jackson's best friend, and the guy that helped raise Docia, Jackson's baby sister. He's also the one who killed the evil Odjit, leader of the Templar Bodywalkers. This unfortunately brought him to the attention of the Templars and Kamenwati, the devoted follower of Odjit and his wrath. Kamenwati has Leo captured and gives him to his resident psychopath Chatha.

What happens there leads up to what happens in this book, and explains where Leo is as far as his utter dislike and hatred for the Nightwalker species.
Enter the new baddie Apep the Imp God and creator of the Wraiths. His goal to take over the world and cause as much chaos and destruction as possible while doing it. His first act nearly kills Jackson. If it hadn't been for the timely intervention of a Night Angel named Faith, he would have killed the Pharaoh.
Thus we come to the part where Jackson's life is on the line, and Leo must learn to put the past behind him, and learn to trust again, or lose his best friend and quite possibly the world as we know it.
You my dear loverlies will have to read the book to learn what happens. I strongly recommend that you start with the very first book (if you haven't read Jacquelyn Frank before) Jacob. Jacquelyn has built a beautiful yet deadly world that takes you on a wild adventure and leaves you wanting more. I absolutely cannot wait for the next installment in this series.
Forsaken was by no means her "best" work that I've read, but it is certainly by no means the worst either. I've liked each and every one of her books as they've come out. I've reread many of them over and over while waiting for the next one. :)

Review:  Book 2 of The Therian Secrets series starts pretty much where the first book 'The Mercenary' leaves off.
Luke, Jodie's brother is still being held captive by the pigs and their leader Charlie Hohepa. They've looked everywhere for weeks and still cannot uncover where they are holding Luke.
Add to that Jodie is becoming stir crazy, she can't leave 'The Fortress' without someone with her, and the stress of not knowing where her brother is isn't helping at all. Danny is doing his best, but Lancaster (asshole -__-)  is keeping his hand close to his chest in hopes that he gets his way too, causing Danny to doubt his superior officer.
Then we throw in Eddie, Ainsley, Mark, Rufus and Summer....

WHEW!!! What a load of mixed up, chaotic emotions!
First Eddie decides to show Ains his lizard (snicker, not that lizard pretty sure she's already 'seen' that one!) But yeah.....needless to say it doesn't go as hoped.
Mark and Rufus both find out at the same time that a pretty waitress (Summer) is a Kodiak Bear, thanks to Jodie's clan ability. But due to self doubts Rufus holds back asking her out, but Mark doesn't.
What happens when all this combustible chaos happens....holy jeez....

With all the emotional upheaval and nefarious plotting will Jodie and Danny be able to survive and  strengthen  their fragile Eros bond? Will they find Luke alive, and what about the rest of the crew? Eddie and Ains? Mark, Rufus and Summer?
Who will break, and who will walk away?

OMG! Are you biting your nails yet? I sure as hell would be if I had any left after reading this nail biting epic book! MAJOR props to Johanna for delivering such a complex, thought inducing, and not too mention Want-to-reach-through-the-book-and-strangle-a-couple-characters book! I couldn't put it down once I started to read it, thank God for coffee and insomnia!
I loved how 'real' the characters were written, and the impulsiveness that they showed on a few occasions made the story pick up in places that it had started to lag in. But even the lag parts were thought inducing, making you more aware of what was going on behind the scenes, and bringing  to the fore front certain aspects that may have gotten over looked if someone (ME) read through it quickly.
All in all I absolutely cannot wait to read book 3 of the Therian Secrets 'The Butcher' (release date unknown)
If you're new to Johanna and this series you'll want to start with book 1 'The Mercenary'
    Trust me money well spent!

Second Touch by Ann Mayburn

Second Touch by Ann Mayburn
   Emma's Arabian Nights Book 2

***Warning: This is a steamy BDSM romance with a sexy as hell Alpha male submissive and a sensual Domme who loves to please her man in the kinkiest of ways including bondage, flogging, spanking, pegging, light F/F play, voyeurism, exhibitionism, and a M/F+M/F scene so hot it just might melt your panties***

After the best night of her life, Emma Simonov can’t find the strength to say goodbye to Ryan, her delicious Alpha male submissive. She would give anything to love the man of her dreams, but reality soon intrudes and she pays the price for her moment of weakness. A life full of responsibilities and duties means she must leave Ryan behind…and break her heart in the process.

If Ryan wasn’t already in love with his high-school crush, he is now after his date with his beloved Emma. When Emma refuses to speak to him, let alone see him, Ryan will do everything he can to have her back—setting into motion a series of events that will either bring them together forever, or tear them apart.

But Ryan isn’t the only one with an eye on Emma and he soon finds out that the price of winning Emma’s heart is far greater than either of them ever imagined.

--Author's Note: This is the second book in the 'Emma's Arabian Nights' novella series and NOT a stand alone. You, of course, can read them in any order you want, but I would highly recommend you read 'First Kiss'...well...first for the most enjoyment out of this series.--

Review: Holy-where-did-my-brain-melt-I-can't-remember-my-name!!
Book 2 of Emma's Arabian Nights picks up where the first book 'First Kiss' left off.
Things are still rocky between Emma and Ryan, he wants her in his life permanently but knows she isn't ready. Emma a professional Domme  has too many things going on in her life, things like her parents and needing to help them that keep her from fully throwing in with Ryan.
That all changes with one stroke of luck.
But as another favorite author of mine likes to say so often in her books....
"No good deed, goes unpunished." ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
    What happens you ask?
Well my lovely fellow readers you'll just have to buy the book and find out for yourself. ;)
                                 *insert evil maniacal laughter*

*coughs and clears throat, recovery finally from laughing*
All in all Second Touch is a GREAT read, and I cannot wait to read how it all turns out in the next book 'Third Chance' (no definite release date yet)
    ...............Stay tuned!
